12API keys

An API key is a credential for software rather than for a person. Scripts, scheduled jobs, n8n workflows and other integrations use an API key to call the SYNERGY Management Gateway REST API without anybody signing in. An AI agent can also use one to reach the MCP server (see Chapter 13, AI agents (MCP server)).

This chapter explains how API keys work, how to create, configure, revoke and delete them, and how a program uses one.
